According to a recent leak, the upcoming Generation 10 Pokémon games might take place in an archipelago featuring numerous islands. This revelation has sparked speculation among fans, offering potential clues about the setting of the next games in the beloved franchise.

Game Freak, the developer behind Pokémon, recently experienced a major data breach, leading to the leak of sensitive information about several Pokémon projects. Among the leaked content are details about the Gen 10 games, the source code for older titles like HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black 2, and White 2, and the personal data of 2,606 individuals. The leak suggests that the Gen 10 games are codenamed "Gaia" and are being developed for both the current Nintendo Switch and its next-gen successor.

The prominent leaker, Centro Leaks, revealed that Game Freak is planning to set the Gen 10 Pokémon games in "an archipelago of many islands." Although no further details have been shared, it hints at the possibility of extensive water traversal and an abundance of Water-type Pokémon in this new region.

Pokémon has previously explored island settings in Pokémon Sun and Moon (Gen 7), which were set in Alola, a region inspired by Hawaii. Following this new leak, fans have begun speculating about the potential inspiration for the Gen 10 region, with many suggesting it could draw from Ancient Greece. However, it’s important to take these leaks and theories with caution until Nintendo provides official confirmation.

Regardless of the setting, the Gen 10 Pokémon games are expected to be successful, continuing the strong momentum of the franchise. The Gen 9 titles, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, released in 2022, were hugely popular, selling over 24 million units and surpassing classic titles like Pokémon Gold and Silver. With Gen 10 likely to be a cross-generation release, it’s poised for similar success.

While the release date for the Gen 10 games remains unknown, it's almost certain they will arrive after Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which is set to debut in 2025. Leaks about Legends: Z-A suggest the return of Mega Evolutions, absent since Gen 7, and indicate that the game’s starters will be Treecko, Tepig, and Sobble.
