Saber Interactive has launched the 5.0 update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, bringing significant changes to the game. The update is now available for download on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Released earlier this year, Space Marine 2 quickly became one of the top co-op games of 2024, offering a thrilling blend of third-person shooter and hack-and-slash gameplay. Players team up to battle Tyranid hordes, and the game's chaotic action appeals even to those unfamiliar with the Warhammer universe. Frequent updates have continued to enhance the game's polish since its launch in September.

The new 5.0 update introduces several key additions. A new operation, Obelisk, challenges players to face off against the Tzaangor Enlightened, a flying hybrid melee/ranged enemy. The Dark Angels Chapter Pack has been added to the Season Pass, offering new character and weapon skins for players to collect. Additionally, 15 new helmet lens color patterns have been introduced for further customization.

Alongside these additions, the patch brings extensive balance changes. Melee damage has been increased across the board, and a major overhaul to Blocking Weapons introduces a new mechanic. Players will now accumulate up to 3 stacks of Melee Damage buffs, which can be spent to unleash powerful AoE Damage upon attacking. These adjustments aim to refine the melee combat system, which Saber felt needed improvement. Although no changes were made to firearms in this update, minor tweaks are expected in future patches (6 and 7).

The update also introduces a new Extermination Bonus in Operations mode, rewarding players with an XP boost based on how many enemies they kill. Killing over 85% of spawned enemies grants a +120% XP bonus, while 60-85% results in a +110% boost, and less than 60% provides a +100% bonus. Additionally, quality-of-life improvements have been added, including spawn protection in PvP mode.
With these changes, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 continues to evolve, offering players more exciting content and balance adjustments.
