I didn't connect the drive to a LIF cable. I connected the drive's SATA data lines from the PCB to the corresponding contacts on a SATA connector, and the 3.3v line and grounds through a 5-3.3v adapter to the SATA power connector, then plugged those SATA connectors into my DFL-DDP for imaging. The traces for the vendor specific lines were ripped from the board by the customer. Just connecting the SATA lines seemed like a reasonable solution, rather than surgery on the VSC lines that only come into play with the LIF and the camera to which it connects.
