Such precise (and beautiful) ramp tools seem a luxury to me, when "conventional" combs seem more than adequate and substantially cheaper. HSA removal tools for dealing with non-ramp drives and stiction I can understand (but still can't afford yet).

I have the cheaper tools, and I have to say they are mostly useless. I have far better success with my own homemade combs. I do however like the ones from http://en.er-tools.com for the drives that park their heads on the platters. HDDSurgery I suppose is worthwhile for larger labs who do a lot of these a day and want to put a less experienced guy on it. For me, I can't see the investment paying off given that I'm already having good success.

There are lot reasons which stand behind our tools price.

Our tools are made in small series and they go through three circles of quality control before they are sent to customers. Production tolerances of our tools are bellow 0.01mm and that dimension makes difference between functional and non-functional tool. Machine park worth around half million of euro is needed for tools production, not to mention long and difficult process of development of the tools and engineering knowledge and effort needed to design and produce them. Documentation (including manuals and video/animation guides) which follows our products also must be taken into consideration. These are just some of the reasons which stand behind price of our tools.

We produce tools for data recovery and computer forensics professionals who will use our tools few times on daily basis. Few successful jobs and our tools pay themselves up - that's impression which we get from many of our satisfied clients.

1. Hello Mike, please tell us about yourself and your role in MJM Data recovery.
Hi, I am Mike Montgomery, Managing Director of MjM Data Recovery Ltd in the UK. We set up the company in 1999 and before that was named MjM Computer Publishing where we did a whole range of computer services - including Data recovery from the late 1980's as a part time business mainly doing back up and computer repairs and installations.

2. What is your history with data recovery?
Started recovering data using Norton disk doctor from floppies in the 1980's as part of the serviced we provided as MjM Computer Publishing, we went online in 1992 and by 1999 data recovery had become the biggest income source. So we set up MjM Data Recovery and built up a specialist DR business based on previous knowledge of file systems and developed that with learning about hard disk hardware, electronics and other storage device mechanics.

Just a simple question here
in which case it's necessary swap the spindle motor for data recovery if its jammed..?
is just swap the platter to good donor will be more easier than swap the spindle motor it self ???

I know swapping platters is not that easy to.
