Seagate ST5000DM000 no spin

Hi Guys

I have this ST here that had a bad PCB (a wrong power supply was connected and burned the PCB).
I ordered a new PCB, swapped ROM (since I couldn't read it from the original PCB), soldered it on the new PCB and it doesn't even spin up....
I can read the ROM by boot code (so ROM is OK).
If it was a burned preamp, it should at least spin up the platters, no??
Thanks

Some drives won't spin with dead preamp. Also, try another PCB without ROM transfer just to see if it spins. You could also block the heads to see if it spins that way too.

Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M
Boot 0x80M

So, you don't even hear it try to spin? Did you open and inspect it internally to be sure the spindle isn't stuck or the heads on the platters? If the PCB suddenly dies, sometimes the heads don't make it to parking position before the spindle stops spinning.

Are you sure you didn't cook the replacement PCB in the transfer? I've done that a few times (blown a small component off there) and it'll have you chasing your tail for hours. Quick digital write to a new PCB, problem solved.

Wow ,
I was reading some posts down and i do not think any hdd rotates if preamps are fried inside .If indeed the inner preamp and the head flex cable is fried i have seen only 25% success rate in head swaps ,due to the fact that if indeed it happens that time hdd is spinning and when there is fireworks all that smoke has no were to go and lands on the platters leading to further problems after head swaps .
