I called the client now.. the drive has a user created password. but forgotten.. Could this be cause ?

Most definitely. PC-3000 should have shown that there was a user password, unless they did the secure reset option. In which case they are screwed.

This is the intention of encryption, and it works.

That's your client's fault for not telling you if they did the secure reset. Or your fault for not asking them for more background info in the first place. It's why step number 1 is always to thoroughly interrogate your client to understand the case. Otherwise you'll waste time and money on parts for lost causes.
