If you had a power failure, have you checked the PCB? Does the drive spins and remains spinning? Don't try to update firmware or what else you are thinking of. It should be properly diagnosed first with proper tools. Have you asked for a recovery price on a lab? Maybe it's not so expensive...

For Seagate you should at least get a way to access terminal. That way you will see what's the drive behavior and indicate the next procedure.

That is file corruption.. If you already save them to your original HDD, the case got worst, because if you want to do another attempt the results will not be good.

What you should have done was to do an image of the drive to another one. Since you could already got other files, the "tables" are ok, so your problem must be bad sectors and for that, maybe doing an image of the drive with hardware capable of read in several ways those bad sectors might be...

Disable heads is possible (at least doing it with PC3000+DE). Hot swap is not possible. But these Toshiba drives are pretty reliable in cases of firmware. Mostly what I see is head damage and to deal with that you have to swap them.

Unfortunately that is why we say that is not recoverable (for the prices that the "ordinary" client wants to pay). We cannot be spending 2, 3 or more donors + time, for the same price of a case that only needs 1 donor and getting 20% or 30% of the data (or maybe nothing)...

Where did you got them?

Pretty easy actually: open Rstudio, select your drive to scan, click on Scan, select all files and the type of partition you have (if you know which one it it, just select that) and hit scan again, wait until it finishes. It's basically this.

If no data was written over it, with a good recovery software you might get it back. It's very important you stop working with that drive and do a scan with it attached to another PC.

Have you done a surface check? Maybe you have a weak head and if so you can try to cut head (don't know if MRT does it, never tested it)...

If I'm right, if you use UFS Explorer it can "mount and see" the content of the drive.

I think that if WD does that (translator initialization when parts are replaced), that could be also bad for them if they want to do a recovery on their own, right? Because that would also make it impossible to be done by them....

Usually it's a head problem, but also need to be checked inside for damage on platters.

Can you explain better what you want/need to do? Is it your drive or a client drive? If you don't want the data to be recovered, just hit it with an hammer and over it.

Case 1: sometimes this also happens to me. For instance, during the imaging a head can become weaker and cannot read anymore if you stop and start. Try to load FW from head 1 for instance, instead of head 0. Case 2: Usually I use Toshiba terminal. Try it.

Usually, when you swap platters, you just swap them to a new chassis, keeping the top cover and PCB. So, if it's a good job probably you don't notice the difference.

Those drive have many FW issues (maybe a slow busy problem). Swapping the PCB will not help. It needs to be well diagnosed first. Usually we do a PCB swap when the drive doesn't power on, or in case of a PCB with USB connector, we swap to SATA to have better control of the drive and firmware.

try to match the model, T2 from DCM and date. If you could find the preamp and revision it would be good.

If the drive is OK, you can use a USB dock or USB enclosure and you will access your data. If the drive is not OK, then you need to perform other steps, like imaging the drive, etc, etc. So a proper diagnosis is needed.

I believe that MRT have some issues while managing the Glist module. Also: are you adding many sectors? There might be a problem, if it "overflow".

Usually after head swap, you need to handle some issues on firmware, or even enable/disable a specific head. Without proper tools you can't do it.

If you can see data with donor ROM, most probably you don't need nothing to do with original ROM. Can you check modules of the drive? What are you using for data extraction?

Completely different software to work with different cases. Acronis can do an image of a good drive to another while DDRESCUE is used to image a drive that have problems (bad sectors, etc).

Have you at least checked the "health" of the HDD, for instance with WD Lifeguard Diagnostic or HDDScan for instance? As Jared said, you probably have a problem physically with the drive and you need to image it before it fails for good. You can also use HDDSuperclone to image it.

What brand and controller have the SSD? I think that without proper tools you cannot access the data.

If you can't check the preamp, you have to follow the other options. The more details you match, the better to have a working donor.

I don't see the difference to a DD-Rescue or HDDsuperclone actually. Just because it have some buttons, and a different GUI, I would not pay just for that.

Could be, don't remember now :D :D But the client was very satisfied with the result.

Usually a preview is only made by some screenshots or similar. After that I use Snap2Html or Snap2IMG to create a report of files to send to the client (but this has to be done after data is recovered).

Yes, you have to swap only IC602 (if I remember correctly and if you don't have tools to read or write them). Be very careful to remove it. They are very sensitive and could get damage very easy.

It's not how things work... MFT is not a file you can save...

No, you need to backup all the files. If you only have the MFT, it's like you have a copy of the index of the book, but then you don't have a copy of the pages...

Your case is not the same (it seems so). You probably have a corrupted MFT. You have to check with another software (like Rstudio) to see if it finds the files/folders.

If it doesn't work, it's better for you to contact ACE so they can take a look. Is it still under warranty?
